Hello and Happy Sunday. I hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving.
We had a lovely one here in Tucson — our little family of three. I cooked a turkey, all the side dishes, and of course pumpkin pie and apple pie (my son’s favorite).

Since I’m originally from Japan, I didn’t grow up celebrating Thanksgiving — but after living in the U.S. for so many years, I’ve learned how to make all the traditional dishes little by little. It was a peaceful, cozy day, and I’m so grateful for it.

Today, I’d like to talk about anxiety. 19.1% of American people suffer from it, yet there is no cure. I’d like to help you to understand what’s going on with your brain after the dark.

Night Anxiety: Why It Feels Stronger After Dark — and How to Calm It

Have you ever noticed that the moment you finally lie down to rest, your mind wakes up?
The house is quiet, the lights are off… and suddenly your thoughts get louder.

That presentation next week feels huge.

That random moment from years ago pops back in like it happened yesterday.

If this sounds familiar, you’re experiencing night anxiety — and you’re definitely not the only one.

Why Your Thoughts Get Louder at Night

Nighttime has a way of turning small worries into big problems. Here’s why:

1. Your rational brain takes a break.
As your body prepares for sleep, the logical part of your brain (the prefrontal cortex) naturally slows down. With less mental “leadership,” your emotional center — the amygdala — takes over. This makes worries feel more dramatic and urgent.

2. Daytime noise goes quiet.
During the day, you have work, movement, conversations, and distractions. At night, it’s silent. No buffer. No noise. Just your thoughts with nothing to compete with them.

3. Stress hormones can get confused.
Cortisol is supposed to drop at night so you can relax. But if you’ve been anxious or overstimulated, your body might still be in “alert mode.” That makes it much harder to settle down.

4. Your ancient wiring turns on.
Humans are biologically wired to be more alert in the dark — an old survival mechanism. Today, instead of worrying about predators, your mind worries about tomorrow’s responsibilities.

Anxiety from a Spiritual Perspective

From a spiritual lens, anxiety is often seen not just as a mental or physical experience, but as a signal — a message from your deeper self, energy system, or higher consciousness.

Here are several spiritual perspectives that many traditions share:

1. Your inner guidance is trying to get your attention.

In spirituality, anxiety can be a sign that a part of you — often your higher guidance — is nudging you to slow down, realign, or pay attention to something important.
It’s not punishment; it’s communication.

2. Misalignment between who you are and how you’re living.

Many teachings (Buddhist, yogic, mystical, metaphysical) describe anxiety as the feeling that appears when your outer life doesn’t match your inner truth.
Your body and energy sense the misalignment before your conscious mind does.

3. Stagnant or blocked energy.

In energy healing traditions, anxiety is seen as energy that is “stuck” or unable to move freely — often in the chest, heart center, solar plexus, or throat.
As that energy builds, it creates tension, pressure, and restlessness.

4. Past wounds or patterns surfacing to be released.

Spiritually, anxiety often rises when old memories, beliefs, or traumas are ready to be healed and cleared.
Anxiety becomes the body’s way of saying, “It’s time to let this go.”

5. Heightened sensitivity.

Many spiritual people or empaths experience anxiety because they absorb the emotions or energy of others.
It’s a sign of sensitivity — not weakness.

6. Evolution and expansion.

In growth teachings (like QHHT, Dispenza, and Hawkins), anxiety can show up right before a breakthrough.
Your nervous system feels the stretch of becoming a new version of yourself.
It’s the “energetic wobble” before a shift.

7. Disconnected from presence.

Anxiety lives in the future.
Spirit lives in the present.
When your mind races ahead, your spirit calls you back to the moment — and the gap between the two is felt as anxiety.

How to Break the Cycle — Simple Practices That Work

Create a “worry window.”
Give yourself 10–15 minutes earlier in the evening to write down anything that’s bothering you. Once it’s on paper, close the notebook and mentally set it aside. This teaches your mind that nighttime is for rest, not problem-solving.

Build a calming nighttime rhythm.
Start winding down 30–60 minutes before bed.
Try gentle stretching, soft music, light reading, journaling, or a warm shower.
Your body learns to recognize these cues as “It’s safe to rest now.”

Use the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method.
When your thoughts start spiraling, reconnect to your senses:

  • 5 things you can see

  • 4 things you can touch

  • 3 things you can hear

  • 2 things you can smell

  • 1 thing you can taste

This pulls you out of fear and back into the present moment.

Keep a bedside “parking lot” notepad.
If a worry pops up, quickly write it down.
Tell yourself, “I’ll handle this tomorrow.”
Your mind relaxes when it knows it won’t forget anything important.

Support your sleep environment.
Try:
• A cool room (65–68°F)
• Blackout curtains
• White noise, nature sounds, or soft fan noise
• Comfortable bedding
These small details signal safety and ease for the nervous system.

When to Get Extra Support

If your nighttime anxiety lasts more than a couple weeks, disrupts daily life, or shows up as panic symptoms (racing heart, shortness of breath), it’s a good idea to reach out to a professional.

My husband and I haven’t seen anyone talk about this, so I want to mention what he found here so you’re aware.

Anxiety also happened to my husband. It was awful. He couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, couldn’t function. Then He found out that his anxiety was actually linked to specific gene mutations. Once he learned this, he studied it deeply, did his research, and was able to heal himself.

For some people with certain genetic variations, even “normal” supplements can have the opposite effect — so understanding your genes can make a huge difference.

If you suspect this might apply to you, consider doing a genetic test through services like ancestry.com or 23andme.com Knowing your genetic makeup can help you understand whether a mutation may be contributing to your anxiety and what support your body truly needs.

A Gentle Reminder

Night anxiety loves silence and darkness — but it doesn’t get the final say.
Most of the scary stories your 2 AM mind creates are just that: stories.

When you understand what’s happening and adopt soothing habits, you can reclaim peaceful nights and wake up feeling grounded again.

Rest is possible. Calm is possible.
And your nights can become a place of healing, not fear.

You can heal from this.

If you’ve been feeling the pull to go deeper, to understand yourself better, or to finally get clarity on something that’s been sitting in your heart… this might be the time to explore a QHHT session with me.

QHHT isn’t about forcing anything. It’s a gentle, safe space where you get to connect with the part of you that holds answers, wisdom, and healing. I’ve seen so many people walk out of a session lighter, clearer, and more grounded — and it’s one of the greatest honors of my work.

If your intuition has been whispering about it, even quietly… listen.
That little nudge usually means you’re ready.

And I would love to hold that space for you. 🌿
