Time Is Not What You Think It Is… Have We Been Living an Illusion?

Happy Sunday, beautiful souls in Tucson! What do you guys think of time?

Have you ever noticed…

The past feels alive when you remember it.
The future feels real when you worry about it.
And the present? It slips away the second you try to hold it.

So what is time?

This week, I want to gently explore something that mystics, physicists, monks, and even ancient Japanese philosophers have whispered for centuries:

What if time is not what we think it is? Stay till the end. There is something that you can apply to your life and make your life better, so you are not anxious about future all the time.

1️⃣ Mystical & Spiritual Traditions: Time Is an Illusion

🕉️ Hinduism & Non-Dual Traditions

In Vedanta, reality is ultimately Brahman — timeless, formless consciousness.
Time (Kala) exists only in the manifest world (Maya).

  • Past & future are mental constructs.

  • Only awareness is real.

  • The Self (Atman) is beyond time.

The Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) in Hindu and Buddhist traditions shows cyclical time — not linear.

Not: A → B → C

But: Cycles within cycles.

☸️ Buddhism

Buddhism teaches:

  • There is no permanent self.

  • Time is dependent on perception.

  • Everything arises and dissolves in the present moment.

Zen masters often say:

“The past is memory. The future is imagination. Only this moment exists.”

✝️ Christian Mysticism

Figures like St. Augustine of Hippo wrestled deeply with time.

He wrote:

The past exists only in memory.
The future exists only in expectation.
The present is the only thing that has being.

Mystics later described God as existing outside time — eternal, not as endless duration, but as a simultaneous Now.

2️⃣ Modern Physics: The Block Universe Theory

According to Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity:

  • Time is not separate from space.

  • It’s part of a 4D structure called spacetime.

Many physicists interpret relativity through the Block Universe theory:

  • Past, present, and future all exist.

  • We are moving through spacetime like a needle on a record.

  • The “now” is subjective.

Einstein even wrote after his friend died:

“The distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”

That’s HUGE.

🌸 A Small Japanese Perspective

In Japan, we don’t argue about whether time exists.

We live with seasons.

Cherry blossoms bloom.
They fall.
They return.

We don’t panic when they disappear.
We understand it’s not their season.

Shinto rituals repeat annually.
Zen emphasizes this moment.
And there is the concept of 間 (Ma) — the sacred pause, the interval that gives meaning to movement.

Time isn’t only forward motion.
It’s rhythm.

Maybe life isn’t linear progress.
Maybe it’s seasonal unfolding.

💛 What This Means for YOU

Let’s bring this down to earth.

Because philosophy is nice.
But you need relief.

1️⃣ Feeling Behind

You are measuring yourself against a timeline someone else invented.

Graduate by 22.
Career by 30.
Success by 40.
Retirement by 65.

Says who?

Nature does not bloom on your schedule.

If time is seasonal, then your “delay” might be incubation.

Roots grow underground before flowers appear.

Maybe you’re rooting.

2️⃣ Anxiety About the Future

Anxiety is time-travel.

Your body reacts to imagined future scenarios as if they are happening now.

But your nervous system only exists in the present.

When you return to breath, you collapse imagined time.

Try this:

Put your hand on your chest.
Feel your heartbeat.
Notice one sound in the room.

That’s reality.

Everything else is projection.

3️⃣ Regret About the Past

Neuroscience shows memory is reconstructed each time you recall it.

You are not accessing a frozen file.

You are rewriting.

Which means the past is not fixed.

It lives in interpretation.

When you shift the meaning of an event, you literally change your emotional timeline.

You are not trapped in your history.

You are interacting with it.

Manifestation & Time (Here’s Where It Gets Powerful)

If the future already exists in some form…

Then manifestation is not forcing something into existence.

It is aligning with a version of reality already present in the field.

Instead of asking:
“When will this happen?”

Ask:
“Who would I be if this were already true?”

Your future self may already exist as a coordinate in this vast structure of time.

You don’t create her.

You tune into her.

And tuning is done in the present.

Not by waiting.
Not by obsessing.

By embodying small shifts now.

🧠 The Spiritual + Physics Crossover

If time is not linear —
If past, present, and future exist simultaneously —

Then your “future self” already exists.

The version of you who:

  • Is calm.

  • Has solved the problem.

  • Has the money.

  • Has healed.

  • Is living the life you desire.

That version is not imaginary.

She is simply positioned at a different coordinate in the time landscape.

Manifestation is not “creating” something.

It is aligning with a version of reality that already exists.

Manifesting Through Time: Is There a Specific Way?

If time is not strictly linear, then manifestation isn’t about “waiting for the future.”

It’s about shifting your relationship to time itself.

Across neuroscience, psychology, mysticism, and even modern physics philosophy, there are four major time-based manifestation mechanisms that show up again and again.

Let’s go deeper.

1️⃣ The Future Memory Principle (Neuroscience-Based)

Your brain does not sharply distinguish between:

  • Remembering the past

  • Imagining the future

Both activate similar neural networks.

This means when you vividly imagine a future event with emotional detail, your brain encodes it similarly to memory.

In other words:

The brain rehearses it as real.

Elite athletes use this.
Therapists use this.
Performance psychology uses this.

The key is not visualizing the outcome like a movie.

The key is generating emotional familiarity.

Instead of saying:
“I hope this happens.”

Shift to:
“What does it feel like to already be that version of me?”

Your nervous system begins to normalize it.

And what feels normal becomes what you act toward.

This reduces internal resistance — which shortens perceived “time delay.”

2️⃣ The Identity-Time Collapse Method (Psychological)

Most people manifest goals.

But research in behavioral psychology shows identity-based change is more stable than outcome-based change.

Instead of:
“I want $X.”
“I want a partner.”
“I want healing.”

Ask:
“Who is the person who already has this?”

Time collapses when you step into identity first.

Because identity changes behavior immediately.

And behavior alters trajectory.

And trajectory alters future probability.

This is not mystical.
This is causality.

Small identity shifts today alter the timeline ahead.

3️⃣ The Eternal Now Approach (Mystical Traditions)

Mystics across traditions — Buddhism, Christian contemplatives, yogic philosophy — emphasize one principle:

Reality unfolds only in the present.

If manifestation happens at all, it must happen now.

Not tomorrow.

Not “someday.”

This doesn’t mean your desire instantly appears.

It means alignment happens only in the present state.

When you obsess about “when,” you activate lack.

When you rest in “now,” you reduce internal friction.

In contemplative traditions, this is not about forcing reality.

It is about becoming internally coherent.

And coherence reduces energetic contradiction.

4️⃣ The Seasonal Alignment Model (Ancient Japan Insight)

In ancient Japan, life followed seasonal rhythms — not rigid clocks.

This offers a profound manifestation lesson.

Not everything grows in every season.

You cannot harvest in winter.
You cannot plant in drought.

Many manifestation frustrations come from misreading your internal season.

Ask yourself:

Am I in:

  • A planting season? (Learning, building foundations)

  • A growing season? (Visible expansion)

  • A harvesting season? (Receiving results)

  • A wintering season? (Integration, rest, recalibration)

If you are in winter, forcing bloom creates stress.

If you are in planting season, expecting harvest creates disappointment.

Manifestation through time may not be about speed.

It may be about timing.

🧠 So Is There a “Correct” Way to Manifest Through Time?

Here’s the deeper synthesis.

If time is layered rather than linear…

Then manifestation may work like this:

  1. You emotionally rehearse the future (future memory principle).

  2. You shift identity in the present (identity-time collapse).

  3. You reduce resistance by grounding in now (eternal now).

  4. You act in harmony with your season (seasonal alignment).

This is not magic thinking.

This is psychological alignment + behavioral consistency + nervous system regulation.

And when those are aligned, probability shifts.

💫 The Comforting Truth

If time isn’t truly linear the way we were taught, then maybe you’re not trying to create something out of thin air at all.

Maybe you’re not forcing a future into existence. Maybe you’re simply remembering who you are becoming. And that feels very different to me. It feels gentler. It feels less desperate.

You’re not late. You’re not behind. You’re aligning with a version of yourself that already exists somewhere in this vast, mysterious landscape of time.

And that should bring you peace. I know it did for me….

Final Thoughts

The more I study time — through science, spirituality, ancient traditions, and even my own life — the more I realize something simple:

Most of our suffering is not about events.

It’s about timing.

We think we’re behind.
We think we missed something.
We think we should be further along.

But what if time isn’t something chasing you?

What if it’s something unfolding with you?

Spirituality, at its core, keeps bringing us back to this moment. Not yesterday. Not five years from now. Just here.

And from here, you always have power.

Maybe time isn’t a straight line.
Maybe it’s layered.
Maybe your future isn’t far away.

Maybe it’s waiting for you to align with it.

You are not late.
You are not off track.
You are not running out of time.

You are becoming.

And that is a sacred process.

Till next Sunday…

Love & Light,
Tomoko 💛

If reading about time, identity, and alignment stirred something in you…

If you feel like there’s more beneath the surface — more clarity, more healing, more answers waiting —

You might be ready for a deeper conversation with yourself.

That’s exactly what I do in a QHHT session.

We gently quiet the mind, move into that relaxed theta state, and allow your Higher Self to speak. Not theory. Not guessing. But direct insight from within you.

Sometimes what’s blocking you isn’t lack of effort.

It’s old timelines. Old identities. Old stories.

And when those shift, everything shifts.

If you feel called, I’d love to hold that space for you.

You can always reach out and ask questions. No pressure. Just an invitation.
